Scoring & Limitations

What the Kinetic Index means

The Kinetic Index is an experimental summary from 0 to 7 of the fitness tests you record. It is not a validated measure of operational readiness, a medical assessment, or a military qualification. The app is not endorsed by the organizations mentioned in historical test descriptions.

From a test to a score

A built-in test maps your raw result into a level using the boundaries shown in its level guide. The latest effort for each test is used, rather than your best effort. The category score averages the eligible test levels. KI combines categories using the displayed weights, adjusted to the categories available. At least three categories and one consistent scoring version are needed.

Dates and missing results

Your current score uses eligible efforts from the past 30 days as of today. A historical score uses the same window as of that historical date. Missing or expired results do not establish a zero fitness level. Calendar dates are stored and compared in UTC. Repeating a test adds a new effort without overwriting its history.

Comparing progress

Changing tests, loads, scoring versions, or the categories available can change the summary even without a change in fitness. Repeat the same tests under the same conditions. Challenge comparisons require the same scored test set and scoring version within the challenge dates. Self-reported results are not independently verified.

Custom tests and historical standards

Custom tests preserve raw values and units but do not contribute to KI. Existing assessments retain their original standards, including earlier draft boundaries. Corrected standards use a new version so old results are not silently reinterpreted. The bundled category weights and draft level bands need independent validation before use for consequential decisions.

Report a concern

Use Report a Bug while signed in, or contact brett@thinkthunk.io if a level guide, result, or comparison looks wrong. Include the test name and scoring version, without sensitive health information.
